Book review in BOMB, photography magazine

Published August 19, 2024. From the review: "As several contributors note, Lee seemed to be everywhere. He regularly showed up at protests, community meetings, and cultural celebrations—wherever Asian Americans might gather. He also recorded more intimate moments: a seamstress hard at work among drifts of fabric as her child looks on, a gaggle of mailboxes variously inscribed with Chinese names, frank portraits of his family and neighbors in their homes or businesses. Page after page reveals a vibrant community that is passionate, vocal, and self-directed in its pursuit of rights and recognition. Lee’s vision of “photographic justice”—rectifying the omissions in dominant histories and promoting a vision of Asian Americans in our full humanity—is enacted in this book."
